Charlyne's Thoughts
From the Heart of a Stander

Archive: May 2007

Each day Charlyne communicates with you formally through "Charlyne Cares" and our broadcast programs. This is her way of communicating with you informally, so that you might be helped by reading what God is doing in her life. Entries will not be made here daily, but as the Lord leads Charlyne to share from the heart of a stander or returned prodigal. On other days, Charlyne’s husband, Bob, a prodigal husband who returned after divorce 20 years ago, will share what the Lord has placed on his heart.

There is a price to pay for having grown up in sunny South Florida. This morning I made another installment on that cost, when I went to the Dermatologist.

Fifty years ago, this time of year meant an entire summer ahead, playing outdoors for many hours every day, wearing only shorts and shoes. Few people knew about sun screen, nor about the damage that sun could do to the skin. Because of sun exposure as a kid, I now visit my dermatologist every six months, for him to detect and freeze any small pre-cancerous growths that are developing.

A couple of years ago, I had one small spot that I ignored. I knew exactly where and what it was, but delayed going to the doctor until a skin cancer had developed. In the end, a few seconds of discomfort from the freezing would have been far less uncomfortable than the surgery and sutures that followed

Could allowing God to deal with our small blemishes of sin be compared with caring for our skin? It may be uncomfortable to confess our secret sins to God, so we choose to ignore them. Sin cancers, like skin cancers, do not go away by themselves. Until we deal with either, they continue to grow.

The sin that your spouse could have dealt with so easily, by confessing it to the Lord, and asking for forgiveness, was allowed to go unchecked, and it continued to multiply, to the extent that eventually your mate thought an amputation of your one-flesh relationship was needed. The good news is that treatment is available for both skin cancers and sin cancers. May you and I pray that your beloved mate soon recognize the help, the healing, and the health that our Lord Jesus Christ can bring to your marriage.

The Healer has appointments available today, for each of us.

God Bless,

Bob Steinkamp
