Q1: What is it like for a prodigal to come home?
(click for answer)

Bob responds:
The first night home, lying in our bed, I had a feeling of peace that cannot be explained. I pray that some day every prodigal spouse can experience that same peace, from knowing we obeyed God.

Q2: Did you really want Charlyne to find someone else after your divorce?
(click for answer)

Bob responds:
No, I did not. We prodigals carry on about our mates finding someone else t o alleviate our own guilt. We justify that if our spouse was involved with someone, we would not appear as guilty to family, to friends, and even to God.

Q3: How do I know that God is hearing my prayers?
(click for answer)

Charlyne responds:
If you have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior of your life, you can know for certain that He hears your prayers. Throughout the Bible there are promises that He hears our cries. Read John Chapter 10.

Q4: I'm afraid that waiting for my marriage restoration has become my will and my obsession. How do I know that God wants what I want?
(click for answer)

Kim responds:
We do sometimes put our marriage restoration ahead of everything else. We think if we could just have our marriage restored, things would be all right. But as Rejoice Ministries often tells us, God wants to be first in our lives. Not only does He want to be first, He must be first.

"But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." 1 Peter 1:15-16.

When we put God first in our lives, everything else falls into place. "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:33-34.

God has spoken a promise to your heart and He has given you direction in your life. Listen to His healing words and heed His guidance.

Q5: I have made some terrible mistakes during our marriage. Will God give me another chance?
(click for answer)

Charlyne responds:
Yes! God is waiting for you to cry out asking for His divine help in restoring your marriage.

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place."

Our Lord is a forgiving God, if we cry out to Him, confessing and repenting of our sins. Humble yourself, telling Him all your mistakes that you have made. King David had committed adultery and then murder. You might turn to Psalm 51 and read the Psalm as a prayer that David cried out to his Heavenly Father. Now pray it as a prayer to your Lord God.

Have you ever asked Jesus Christ into your life? Have you ever come to the point that you know that you need to surrender your life completely, putting your Lord in the driver's seat to take control of your entire life? Read more about this at: http://www.rejoiceministries.org/salvation.html

Ask Jesus Christ into your life right now. Write to us and let us know the committment that you have just made. You will never be the same again!

It does not matter what you have done in your marriage. It matters that you have asked for forgiveness with your Heavenly Father. I know you may have caused all the marriage problems. You may have commited adultery, or you may have other problems that you are dealing with like anger, alcohol or drug addiction. All those sins have been washed away by your Lord Jesus Christ's Blood. Now, seek your Lord to change you and ask your Lord to heal and restore your broken, hurting and possibly dead marriage. Nothing is too hard for your Lord God.

Let me take you to God's Word and read what Jesus tells a woman who had five husbands!
Go to John 4:1-26.

This is just the beginning of what your Lord wants to do in your life.

"Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know." Jeremiah 33:3

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:11-13

Q6: My prodigal spouse and the other person work together. After God puts us back together should I demand that one of them quit?
(click for answer)

True, they can no longer work together, but that must be accomplished by your prayers, not your demands. Depend on God and He will move someone out, according to His schedule.

Q7: My absent prodigal is saying that my praying for him to come home is harming our child, who prays with me. Should I do as suggested and stop standing?
(click for answer)

Charlyne responds:
Never stop standing! Bob would often say that to me also. He did not want our children to have any hope that he would come home. That is normal for the prodigal spouse who is gone.

You need to live, walk and act like a Christian spouse who believes in the power of prayer and in the mighty power of your Lord God. You teach to teach your children about prayer and how to pray for problems in their daily life.

Your spouse does not want your child to become confused. He does not want to give them any hope or encouragement that they are coming home.

I often told my children about Bible stories about impossible situations in the Old Testament. Then I would say, "That is why I believe that God can bring Daddy home." We just have to trust, wait and believe that God is in control. Nothing is too hard for our Lord God to do."

Seek your Lord how to respond to your children according to their age. We must teach our children between right and wrong and making bad choices so that they will know the difference.

I would never stop standing or praying for my spouse who needs to be home to be the spouse and parent that God intended them to be.

Q8: I was not married in a church. Was God still there and is he in our marriage now?
(click for answer)

Charlyne responds:
Your Lord God was right there with you. God created the institution of marriage in Genesis. Our Lord teaches us that when we marry, we become one-flesh regardless if you were saved or where you got married. Read Matthew 19:1-6

Q9: How do I put my family on your prayer list?
(click for answer)

Bob responds:
If you have ever contacted Rejoice Marriage Ministries, and given us your name and other information, you contact has been recorded in the Ministry records, and you are in our personal prayers. Be assured that someone with the last name of Steinkamp has read your email or letter. Often more than one person has read your message. Charlyne or I, or both of us, look at all signed email personally.

We hear from far too many couples with hurting marriages to list name individually on the Chapel page, so you may never see your names there, but you can know we are praying for you and your family.

Confidentiality issues do not allow us to share publically the names of people who contact us.

Q10: My husband "suddenly" called and moved back home. A few weeks later, he is gone again. How do I deal with this setback?
(click for answer)

Kim responds:
It is difficult when we face setbacks on what we thought was a definite road to restoration. But God is still in control. This situation is just a detour that the enemy has mapped out for you. But if you cling tightly to God's promises, you will find your way again.

One of Bob's books spoke to spouses who come home for a while and then leave again. He likened it to a pendulum on a clock - the further it swings one way, the further it has to swing back. May that pendulum bring your spouse home to the Lord and to the family that loves him.

"I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them." Isaiah 42:16.
