Has your marriage been restored? Restored & Redeemed is a devotional for those in a restored marriage.

A Prayer for Strength

We are a few weeks into the new year. How are you feeling? Are you still on the new-year high and excited about what the Lord is going to do in your family this year or are you battling the enemy for your thoughts?

When my mom was praying for her marriage to be restored, she came to a point when she felt like she ran out of words to pray. She felt like David in Psalm 13 when he asked, “How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart?”

You may be feeling weak today. You may be asking God to give you physical or emotional strength. We want to share a prayer with you that comes straight from scripture. Our prayer for you is that you will realize God is in control. Whatever that hardship is you are facing, He wants to carry it for you. Ask Him to equip you with strength. He is faithful!

Praise be to the Lord, for He has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy, and I will thank You in song. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. The Lord gives strength to His people and blesses His people with peace. Lord, I have not stopped praying for my spouse and loved ones, asking God to fill each of them with the knowledge of Your will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And I pray this so that each of us may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please You in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that each of us may have great endurance and patience, joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For He has rescued our loved ones from the dominion of darkness and brought each of us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Lord, we pray You will put to death whatever belongs to Your earthly nature that is coming against me and my loved ones: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry. But rid each of us of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from our lips. I pray that we will not lie to each other since we have taken off our old self with its practices and put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Lord, clothe us with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Help us bear with each other and forgive whatever grievance we may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave us. Pour on each of us love, which binds us all together in perfect unity. Lord, teach us to devote ourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. We pray that our conversations will always be full of grace, seasoned with salt, so we may know how to answer everyone.

Lord, teach us always to wrestle in prayer for our loved ones so that we may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. Lord, we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. If God is for us, who can be against us? We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Show us your ways, 0 Lord, teach us Your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long. Create a pure heart in me and my spouse, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. I cried to the Lord in my trouble, and He saved me from distress. He brought me, my spouse, and my loved ones out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains. Let us give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love. You alone are my rock and my salvation; You are my fortress; I will never be shaken. Praise the Lord.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever. Amen.
