Men, has the Lord placed a devotional on your heart that you would like to share with other standers?

This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus….  Ephesians 1:1 (NLT)

That is the first half of the first verse of Ephesians. How amazing, he was chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus. I ask you, what has the Lord chosen you to be or to do? Have you ever asked yourself, “Why am I on this earth? What is my calling?”

One day as a younger child, I remember we went to a service and a prophet told my brother and myself that we were going to be pastors. At first, I thought that everyone was told that they were going to be a pastor. As time passed by and as I got older, I knew I was going to be a pastor someday. I remember once, sitting in the car with my wife, she mentioned that we should think about becoming pastors. I was taken aback and I actually told her that I first needed to focus on my career and then someday I would become a pastor. She was kind of devastated but at that time, I felt I wasn’t ready. Approximately a year later, my wife began to attend a local Bible college. The teacher, a family friend, actually graduated with my father (also my pastor) in the same class. That was the last thing on my mind. Becoming a pastor was not on my mind.

I tell this story, not for my glory, not at all. I feel that we need to focus on what God is asking us to do. God is asking us to stand for our marriages and future generations. God is asking me to stand for not only my salvation, but my spouse’s and my children’s eternal salvation. What is your calling on this earth? What has God chosen you to do? Have you ever asked yourself this? A pastor? Has God blessed you with an amazing voice? Maybe your calling is to serve others. Maybe you know how to play an instrument. Maybe your calling is to be a leader of some kind at church. Maybe God chose you to teach Sunday school. Maybe God called you to help other marriages that are in dismay. You can still help other marriages or standers even if your marriage is not restored. What has God placed in your heart? Was has God told you? Are you being obedient? Today, ask God what His will or plan is for your life.

Quickly back to my story. I remember one day, our pastor decided to change buildings which lasted only a month. He immediately left back to his country. We started having our services at our home. My dad would give messages every Sunday. Eventually we moved out of the house and started to rent a building. One day, God called my dad to become pastor. Even my father felt he was too old. At that time, he was in his mid-60’s. I never imagined that my dad, of all people, would be pastor. Not because he wasn’t a good father or anything, but of everyone available, my dad was CHOSEN to become pastor.

Going through what I am going through, I finally saw what God’s plan was for me. He made a way when there was no way. I mean seriously, I never imagined that I would be on the path to become a pastor at age thirty. That age is pretty special to me because that is the same age that Jesus started His ministry.

See, God put everything in its place. It started from meeting my spouse at the other church. Then, moving to another building. The pastor leaving. Having services at our home. Moving our church services out of our home. Renting a building and then purchasing a building like a block away from our parent’s home. Later, my spouse separated from me and filed for divorce. It took all that, whether good or bad, for God to use me and set me up on His path and will. As a result, I got closer to God and I am still working on myself with the help of God. Can you see how God was working this whole time without me even noticing or knowing?

Today, although you don’t understand it, God is working. He is slowly placing people in our lives to complete His plan for us. He is slowly placing everything in its place to fulfill His purpose and plan for us. He is piecing our lives together for His good. His plans are for our good. I share my story, not as a testimony. I share my story because if He is working in me and putting things in place to fulfill His plan and purpose for me, He will do that for you. God chose Paul to be an apostle to Jesus Christ. What has God chosen you to do? How can you serve Him? How can you serve others while we wait?

Prodigals are thinking about coming home. They truly are. I promise you that they are! They just keep it to themselves. I thought only other people’s prodigals thought that and not my wife. When my wife told me that she was thinking about coming home, I couldn’t believe it. I never imagined I would hear those words, ever! I always thought that my wife was too distant from God. I always thought that my wife’s heart was too hard for Him. I always thought that she hated me so much that she would never come home. I never thought that her heart would slowly be softening. I know, I doubted God and His power. He just proved me wrong again and again. The time has come. Hearts are softened. Eyes are opened. The veil comes off. Prodigals do come home. Prodigals WILL come home, in His time. We are almost home.

God bless,

Jesse in Arizona
