I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes.In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate their sin. Psalm 36:1-2
Do you hate the sin that is destroying your spouse? Do you hate the evil that is going on in your community? Are you becoming insensitive to the evil that is around you? Are you desensitized to what you are listening to or watching on television? We are in this world, but we are not to be of this world. Are you willing to make a difference in lives while you are standing for the healing and restoration of your marriage?
As part of your devotions today, read Psalm 36. Then meditate and study this short Psalm, comparing where your beloved spouse is in their own life to God’s righteousness. In this Psalm, verse one states that there is no fear of God in people who live far from God. The ungodly do not hate evil. Does your spouse believe that there are consequences to their sinful lifestyle? May this burden you even more to pray for your spouse’s soul.
Where are you in your relationship to God? Have you surrendered your heart and life over to your Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ? Have you made that very important commitment? Are you walking in faith, believing and praying for God to touch and change your spouse’s sinful heart? Wherever you are each day, choose to shine the Lord’s light in this dark world, speaking God’s love and hope to others.
For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. Psalm 36:9
Be a lighthouse wherever you may go. The Lord may have you give hope to a person who feels hopeless due to their circumstances. Your Lord God can touch and change their life. The Lord will make divine appointments for special people to minister to your spouse, speaking God’s truths and love to them, the same way you are ministering to others.
Never doubt the power of your Lord Jesus Christ. Never forget that the enemy has deceived, tempted and seduced your spouse to fall into sin and they are now living in darkness, in a prison where they cannot see or find the way out. Remember the promises of your Lord God. Speak and claim them daily!
What is happening with your spouse when they go to bed at night? Bob would tell you that when he laid his head on the pillow, he remembered all that he had done and was still doing. He did not forget his children or me. He felt nothing but guilt and shame. As your prodigal tosses and turns, the enemy speaks more evil into their ears trying to take them deeper into sin. Then when you see your spouse, they only seem more hostile and angrier at you. It is not you, but because of your spouse’s lifestyle and the trap they are in. You need to radiate the love of the Lord and let them know that you are praying for them and wanting them home.
Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong. Psalm 36:4
That is why one of my favorite scriptures to share with others is in Job, Chapter 33. You must believe that the Lord can speak to you and He will speak to your spouse regularly. You can pray for your prodigal to be obedient to the voice of the Lord.
“But I tell you, in this you are not right, for God is greater than any mortal. Why do you complain to him that he responds to no one’s words? For God does speak—now one way, now another— though no one perceives it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword.” Job 33:12-18
Will you accept the daily commitment to become a prayer warrior, an intercessor for your spouse and children? Do not allow the enemy to tell you that you are too busy, or that praying does not make a difference, or praying scriptures does not work. Who are you listening to? Believe what the Word of the Lord says and pray for your spouse to fear God and to hate evil. The Lord will not stop calling their name to repent and turn from their sinful ways. Keep praying!
The Lord is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does. The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him. Psalm 145:18-19
