Fight for your Marriage

Ep 163 – The Discipline of Solitude and an Update on Charlyne

In today’s episode, we will give an update on our recent request for prayer for Charlyne. We will then discuss the spiritual discipline of silence and solitude before the Lord. We will explain what that means and how you can grow in your Christian walk as you intentionally take time to be still before the Lord.

Ins’t it wonderful how He works? Recently I’ve been convicted to return to quiet time with Him, whether it’s reading, praying, in His word…just being quiet. He has given me this time alone (when my spouse is not here and my son is here only part of the time) for a reason, and what better way to spend it than with Him? After a bout of prolonged stress, I found myself turning to silly YouTube videos as a way of escape, but that is not where I should have been turning! That’s only a crutch. And so, I am, as you said, being more intentional about QUIET. Once again, this podcast is so timely. Thank you both so much.

I love study time with the LORD in the Word, but so often, when I try to be still, and silent in solitude before Him, the things I’ve seen in my study time become burdensome thoughts about my beloved and our family. I want to be able to cast my cares about my loved ones on Jesus in intercession, but I need this solitude with the LORD first, just like Jesus did, Thank you for helping me understand that when my thoughts speak louder than His voice simply ask Him to remove any intrusions, my thoughts included. In the Solitude, I want to be filled with the knowledge of His presence, not my own.
Have mercy on me… “Seek My face.” My heart said to You, “Your face LORD I will seek.” Psalm 27:7-8

This was such a great podcast! Being still before God is something He’s been asking me to do recently and I’ve been struggling with it. There were some really practical ways to help foster this into our lives. So good!

Great reminders. I used to feel guilty for not sitting still and listening. Then, I realized all my prayer journaling is quiet before God. Writing down what I hear God telling me. As y’all mentioned, it’s the listening that I have to make time for. I look forward to hearing what you have to say about other disciplines. That has been part of my journey as I live alone.
