Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:11
Our home is located near a busy fire station. Several times each day, we hear sirens as EMS units respond to a sick or injured person. They have even been called to our home a couple of times.
All around us, families are falling apart. You have been there. You know what it feels like to have a hurting marriage and need help. What if God is calling each of us to now be the first responder for others left wounded by marriage problems. Don’t let the enemy make you feel like you can’t help others because your marriage isn’t perfect.
The lights and sirens that once went off when your family was hurting may be going off for another family today. Others are probably watching you to see how you navigated your marriage problems and marriage restoration.
You can pack a first aid kit and offer assistance to other hurting families. You will need four basic P’s.
Presence – Don’t be afraid to go to those who are hurting. Being there will communicate that you care. Let them know they aren’t alone and that there is hope.
Patience – Being patient with the suffering of others will do much to lessen their pain. You don’t need to bring the fix, but you can direct them to the God who can guide them through their problems.
Prayer – This is an essential item in your kit. Your prayers can be the thing that brings change and comfort to those you are helping.
Practical – Being practical when walking with someone through marriage problems can be very helpful. Providing a home-cooked meal can ease the burden of an overloaded person. If they are willing to listen, you can share how the Lord spoke to you when you were trying to figure out how to offer love and forgiveness to your spouse.
This week you may see others whose homes are falling apart because of their marriage problems. Go and render aid. Help them see God, the great physician in the midst of their problems. He alone can breathe life into a dying marriage.
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness, and broke away their chains. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, Psalm 107:13-15
