Men, has the Lord placed a devotional on your heart that you would like to share with other standers?
My sweet, sweet prodigal. What have we become? What have we done? I look into your eyes and see your pain. I also see someone else, but deep, deep down, the person I married is still there. I see your hurt. I feel your pain. You blame me for everything. You seem to be happy, in love, having the best time of your life, but deep down I see your regret and sorrow. We’ve talked about if I would have changed during our marriage or if we would have done it differently, we wouldn’t be here. Why don’t you just come home? This formal prodigal is waiting for you. You are all alone and making your own decisions “for a better life.” You are reckless, uncaring, in debt, mean, radical, just thinking about yourself. Just remember, there is no better life without Christ. You are heading towards death.
These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. James 1:15 (NLT)
I know what many of you are going through. We will never understand the “why me?” Only God knows that. God knows us better than ourselves and He knows our ending. God wants us one-on-one. He wants us to only rely on Him. No one will fully understand what you are going through, only God. Read the Word, pray for our spouses, pray for each other, watch testimonies, stay busy for the Lord. God is speaking promises into our lives. Please write them down.
Do you remember when the devil tried to tempt Jesus?
Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.” Matthew 4:8-9 (NLT)
What did Jesus do? He told Satan to get out of there. He told Satan to leave. The devil went away and then the angels took care of Jesus. Unfortunately, our prodigals took the bait. They were deceived by the great deceiver and father of all lies. They thought that they could just walk away from our marriages, from our homes, from our lives, even from God. They thought that there would be no consequences for this decision. Oh, but there are.
“The person who sins is the one who will die. The child will not be punished for the parent’s sins, and the parent will not be punished for the child’s sins. Righteous people will be rewarded for their own righteous behavior, and wicked people will be punished for their own wickedness.” Ezekiel 18:20 (NLT)
What do the following verses say?
“But if wicked people turn away from all their sins and begin to obey my decrees and do what is just and right, they will surely live and not die. All their past sins will be forgotten, and they will live because of the righteous things they have done. Do you think that I like to see wicked people die? says the Sovereign LORD. Of course not! I want them to turn from their wicked ways and live.” Ezekiel 18: 21-23 (NLT)
Wow! There is hope for our prodigals. I was once a prodigal too. No this isn’t my testimony, but I need you to all hear this. THEY ARE NOT HAPPY! IT IS ALL A LIE! I thought that I could deceive everyone, living a double life, living in adultery. All a big lie.
Just remember that God is in control. Don’t ever give up. Always stand. Our generations, our prodigal spouses, and more importantly, our eternal salvation depends on it. My now-prodigal spouse prayed for me to turn to Christ. God was calling me to turn to Him but I refused. Now, God is calling to my prodigal to turn to Him. Tell the devil to leave just how Jesus did. The enemy WILL leave in the name of Jesus.
Now may the God of peace—who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood—may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen. Hebrews 13: 20-21 (NLT)
God is working. Are you ready for your spouse to return to God and to your home? I am.
