That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:35-40
How has the weather been in your area? Recently, in the United States, many cities have seen winter storms. You may not have faced a weather storm recently, but you may be going through a storm in your personal life.
Do you believe in the power of your Lord Jesus?
They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” Mark 4:41
If you are in a personal storm, I know it may feel like the winds of circumstances seem to be blowing so strongly that you feel like you are drowning. I pray that you will re-read Mark 4 about Jesus calming the storm. That is one prayer you can keep on praying by using that specific scripture. You can say, “Lord, I know you can speak to this storm of _____ and calm the winds. Nothing is too hard for you! Thank you, Lord. Amen.”
Imagine our Lord Jesus calming the raging storms of divorce and separation that are tearing apart our homes as if they were being thrown up in the whirlwinds of the seas. There is One who can calm those raging seas.
Through the challenges you face, I pray that you would come to know your Lord Jesus deeply so that you know He is right there with you.
Are you afraid that you are drowning because of your problems and there is no one to help you? Are you like the disciples and fearful of the circumstances as they were in their boat? What did Jesus say to them? He responded in a rebuke. “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” Matthew 14:28-32
How is your faith today? Do you have confidence in the Lord despite everything that is happening? The Lord wants you to keep your eyes on Him, not your circumstances. Do you believe? Do you have faith? Why do you doubt the power of your Lord God?
As I study, I am even more convinced about the power of prayer and the power of our awesome, mighty Lord. Choose to start praying simple prayers throughout each day. Just imagine what the Lord could accomplish by you changing your prayer life. Will you try it?
We do not need to be afraid of anything if we surrender our lives to our Lord Jesus and walk in faith moment by moment. Trust His timing and His ability to calm the storms around you.
