Restored and Redeemed

Has your marriage been restored? Restored & Redeemed is a devotional for those in a restored marriage.

Have You Been Transformed?

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17

Are you the same person you were when you were having marriage problems? My prayer is that you can say, “No!” emphatically. When I divorced Bob, I had allowed my heart to be hardened even though I considered myself a follower of Christ.

I was reacting to our circumstances in the flesh using the world’s methods. My actions showed a lack of compassion and love for my husband. I became consumed by my pain. My tongue was speaking anger and bitterness.

Two months after my divorce, I heard someone share about God’s love and His power to heal a dead marriage. That day I changed.

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate] the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:17-18

Our church once had almost 150 men and women share at their annual mission conference from the Teen Challenge Ministry. They are a residential recovery program for men and women. Each of these people had a story of transformation because of Jesus. They not only found a relationship with Christ, but they transformed habits, addictions, friends, and their lives.

One song they sang called I Won’t Go Back really touched my heart. The words were profound.

I won’t go back, can’t go back, to the way it used to be
Before Your presence came and changed me
I need somebody, lift up your voices and declare
I won’t (I won’t go back, I can’t go back, to the way it used to be)
Before Your presence came and changed me

These men and women proclaimed through song their desire to leave a life of bondage behind. The power of the Lord had changed them, and they were free!

I pray that you and your spouse will have a personal transformation as you both become new creatures in Christ. I never want to go back to the woman, wife, and mother I was before the Lord transformed me into His image. I knew if the Lord could change my life, He could transform Bob from a prodigal into a godly husband.

There is hope and freedom in Jesus Christ. He brought your spouse home. He will continue to change both of you into His image as you seek His face. I want to encourage you to continue growing in the Lord. Show your children and your once wayward spouse the love of Jesus through your actions.

July 7 is the anniversary of when the next step of transformation happened in our marriage when we remarried. The change continued after that day. It didn’t stop once we were remarried. Ask the Lord to continue transforming you into His image and your marriage into the marriage He created you to have. Don’t ever go back to the way things were before.

God bless,

But God! Charlyne this is exactly what I needed to hear today!! My husband is home; however, our marriage is still on rocky ground. I know I have not fully forgiven my husband and am not obeying God completely. I catch myself doubting God. Yes my husband is home but why is he not changed? Then I hear God saying, “ Zip your lips, forgive completely, lose the bitterness and Believe in Me”
