Mark 10 Nine

Are you happily married and looking for tips on maintaining a God-honoring marriage? This weekly devotional will give you encouragement for your marriage.

How to Trust God When Life Feels Overwhelming

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”  Matthew 6:25-27

I remember when my husband, Bob, had just been transferred to the Rehabilitation Unit. The reality was setting in. Bob was paralyzed on the left side of his body following a stroke. He would have to learn how to walk, talk and move that side of his body.

People kept asking me what I was going to do about work and caring for him. “How will you take care of Bob’s needs?” “How will you pay your bills?” For a moment, fear came over me. Did I sign up for this? I recognized what was happening and told the enemy to get away from my family and me.

The following day, my devotional reading was from Matthew 6.  When I read the verses, the words came alive to me. I felt as if the Lord was answering the questions that everyone had.

When a crisis hits your family, many things run through your mind.

Why is this happening?

How will we survive?

Is my marriage worth the fight?

The reason we often worry is that we feel out of control. Do not let fear take over. No one knows what tomorrow will bring except the Lord. We are to live one day at a time. God is our source and strength, not man. We need to trust the Lord and His faithfulness.

You may be walking through a season of worry because of the pandemic. Maybe you are facing worry because your marriage is struggling. You may be going through deep financial struggles. God is enough.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Reasons Not to Worry-

    • The same God who created life in you can be trusted with the details of your life.
    • Worrying about the future hampers your efforts for today.
    • Worry is more harmful than helpful.
    • Worry shows a lack of faith and understanding of God.

Turn to the Lord for your help. Ask Him to fill your mind with His peace. If you seek the Lord, He will be faithful.

I had already watched the Lord restore my hopeless and dead marriage. How could I not trust that He could provide for our needs during Bob’s health crisis?

The Lord wants you to place your worries in His hands. The unknowns about your children attending school, the struggles in your marriage, the stress you are carrying because of your job – whatever it is, leave it with your Savior.

Where have you already seen the Lord provide for your needs? He is faithful!

Today, leave your fears and all anxieties at His feet. He wants you to rest in Him with the unknowns of tomorrow and your future. The Lord will never leave you nor forsake you!

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

God bless,
