Jesus Gives the Best Gifts!

Another Christmas has come and gone. Did you get the gifts you wanted on your list? Did you get an unexpected gift? Maybe you got a gift you really wanted but didn’t know how it could happen. Maybe you got a gift you didn’t even know you wanted.

Some of the best gifts of the Christmas season are not under the tree, but around it. I got to spend a beautiful day with my children and grandchildren. There were video calls with my brother and sister and their families. There were prayers around the Christmas table. There was love.

The best gifts of the Christmas season come from our hearts. And they come from the heart of Jesus. He gives the best gifts! Gifts He gave us long ago and continues to give.

Jesus gives us the gift of salvation. When He came to earth over 2000 years ago, it was to fulfill a promise from God. His birth on Christmas Day and death on the cross years later, opened the way to eternal life in Heaven. He gave us a way for our sins to be forgiven. Jesus gave us a way to be saved.

“Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight.”  Acts 13:38-39a (NLT)

Jesus gives us the gift of love. From the very start of His ministry and all throughout, Jesus talked of love. Not only His love for us, but our love for others. Time after time Jesus demonstrated His love for the people around Him. He listened to them, He taught them, He healed them, He even restored life to them. Jesus’ love for us is enduring, unending, and given freely. And He asks us to demonstrate this kind of love to others. Not only those around our table, but also to those who are difficult to love.

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.  1 John 4:7 (NLT)

Jesus gives us the gift of peace. He surrounds us with His loving presence and bestows on us a crown of peace. Sometimes it’s tough to live in peace when we are surrounded by difficult circumstances. But Jesus makes this possible. He fills us with the Holy Spirit and sets our hearts at ease. He asks us not only to live in peace with others, but to actively pursue peace. Let the peace that Jesus gives to you be shared with others.

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.  Isaiah 26:3-4 (NLT)

Jesus also gifts us with comfort and strength. When we are tossed about in life, whether due to circumstances or doubt, He reaches down for us and lifts us up. He surrounds us in His loving arms and comforts us, until we can once again feel His peace. Jesus gives us the strength and courage to continue along the path He has chosen for us. No matter what comes against us, we can always count on Jesus’ strength to see us through.

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.  2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NLT)

Jesus showers us with the gift of His blessings. Take time today to think about the year just passed. Sit down and list all the blessings Jesus has given you, both in the physical and in your heart. I did this myself and found that Jesus was always blessing me, in big things and small. I also found that there were many blessings I had forgotten to thank Him for. Send up some special prayers today to thank Jesus for all your blessings.

“I will bless my people and their homes around my holy hill. And in the proper season I will send the showers they need. There will be showers of blessing.”  Ezekiel 34:26 (NLT)

Jesus gives us direction and guidance. When we are confused about which direction to take, He will step in and lead us by the Holy Spirit. He lives within us and wants the best for us. And His plan for our life is for our good. Listen to Jesus’ guidance, follow His way, and walk in the path He has laid out for you.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”  Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)

One of the best gifts Jesus gives us is joy. Yes, joy! Joy in His salvation, His love, His peace, His comfort and strength, His blessings, His guidance. If our hearts are committed to Him, we can have joy in all circumstances. Because He lives in us, we can rejoice in Him. Oh how Jesus loves to see His children living in joy!

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!  Philippians 4:4 (NLT)

God bless
