Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12-14
Football season has started up again, and so it is time for all the Monday morning quarterbacks to appear. After every game, well-meaning fans have a list of ideas about what the players or coaches could have done differently.
The players review the game. They acknowledge their mistakes and learn from them. Eventually, they have to put the game behind them and press on to the next one.
We need to learn to do the same.
Are there any events in your life that you wish you could erase? What mistakes have you made this year that you wish you could redo? Maybe they happened while you and your spouse were apart. Maybe they were choices that contributed to the pain in your marriage. They may even be decisions you’ve made since your marriage has been restored.
Each of us has said or done things we regret. We hear from people every day who beat themselves up over past mistakes.
You don’t have to live there.
Jesus dealt with your past on the Cross. If you have confessed your sin and received His forgiveness, you don’t need to keep carrying what He has already forgiven.
Today might be the day that you take “that thing” that keeps tormenting you and give it to the Lord. Receive His forgiveness. Learn from the past, but don’t allow the past to keep you from moving forward.
Your restored marriage won’t be strengthened by replaying your failures. It will be strengthened when you look to the Lord and let Him keep changing you.
The blood of Jesus covers every sin.
The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:8-12
God bless,
