Men, has the Lord placed a devotional on your heart that you would like to share with other standers?
A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Luke 6:45
Have you listened to yourself lately? What kind of words are coming out of your mouth, words of praise or words of criticism? Spend a day really listening to the words that come out of your mouth. I suggest that you keep a journal of your words, both verbal and non-verbal.
But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts… Matthew 15:18-19a
Your mouth is an excellent indication of the condition of your heart. If 80 percent of what comes out of your mouth is critical of others or of yourself, you are not being diligent in protecting your heart from the schemes of Satan.
Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. Ecclesiastes 5:2
During my walk through the valley of divorce, I found that I spent most of my time beating myself up for the failure of my marriage. I was self-critical saying things like, “I am such a loser” or “I am a jerk,” or even worse, “I am unlovable.” In spite of walking in faith with the Lord, I did not guard my heart from Satan’s attacks to discourage me.
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8
After analyzing your speech for the movements of your heart, take these thoughts and words to Jesus in prayer. Like the “Parable of the Weeds” (Mt 13:24-30), ask Jesus to remove the weeds from your heart. Place everything in Jesus’ hands; He will uproot anything that was not planted by His Father.
Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared. “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’ “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied. “The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’” Matthew 13:24-30
Jesus will purify your heart if you just ask Him to do so. Give Him access to your thoughts and words. Submit everything to Him. He will separate the weeds from the wheat. He will transform your heart, making it healthy and whole. Give Jesus reign over your heart. Let go of your right to be critical, angry or bitter. As you allow Jesus to cultivate the soil of your heart, you will become more like Him in your words and deeds.
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14
Get in the habit of sharing the movements of your heart with Jesus, preferably on a daily basis. Weeds grow quickly and can choke out the good seed that has been planted in your heart. As you allow Jesus to remove the weeds in your heart, you will see how your words will become more fruitful.
The hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent, and their lips promote instruction. Proverbs 16:23
As Jesus removes the weeds from your heart, the Holy Spirit dwelling in you will shine forth in your speech. Your life will be transformed. Your lips will sing songs of praise and thanksgiving. Bless the Lord for His mighty deeds. Feast on the Word of God made flesh and He will reign victorious in your thoughts, words and actions.
No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it. Deuteronomy 30:14
God bless you, my dear Brother in faith.
My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you— I whom you have delivered. Psalm 71:23
