Lord, Rescue My Family

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. Rescue me from my enemies, Lord, for I hide myself in you. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. For your name’s sake, Lord, preserve my life; in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.  Psalm 143:8-11 

How often do you hear about a person being rescued from dire circumstances? There are stories on the news nightly about someone needing to be rescued.

What does “rescue” mean to you? I looked up the word “rescue” in Nelson’s Three-In-One Bible Reference Companion, which says: to save or deliver from something perilous.

Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink, deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters. Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me.  Psalm 69:14-15 

You may wonder if the Lord knows you are hurting. Does He see the pain you endure? Your feelings may shift to wondering how He will rescue you from the circumstances.

Let me assure you that your Savior does see you. He knows all that you are facing. He hurts because you hurt. Will you cry out to the Lord today for Him to rescue you and your spouse from the pain and suffering that you are going through? Ask the Lord to deliver your spouse from the enemy’s tricks trying to destroy your marriage.

How did divorce become such an epidemic in so many families? Our world is winking at sin. The world is not encouraging faithfulness in marriage. The world does not consider divorce or unfaithfulness to be a tragedy to a couple or their children. Who can rescue families from the storms of divorce? Jesus Christ is the only answer. Cry out to the Lord for His rescue.

Pray that the Holy Spirit will speak to all the prodigals, bringing them to their senses, godly sorrow, repentance, and a turn from their present sins, so they can  go home as the Prodigal Son did in Luke 15.

I am reminded of the song Fanny J. Crosby wrote, “Rescue the Perishing.” May this be your heart’s cry that thousands of sinners will repent and turn away from their sinful lifestyle. Lord, call their names, lift them out of the sinking sand of sin, and bring them to safety. Lord, may they all call on the mighty Name of Jesus and humble themselves to You for their salvation.

Please pray for a spiritual awakening around the world. Every day is truly a gift from God. Pray that all prodigal men and women are convicted by the power of the Holy Spirit to repent, turn their hearts toward Him, and then go home to their waiting families.
