Rest

Each week we share guest devotionals. The views expressed below are those of the writer and may not reflect the views of Rejoice Marriage Ministries or the Steinkamps.

Has the Lord placed a devotional on your heart that you would like to share with other standers?

We all start the New Year with great expectations and hopes and dreams. Many of us also pray about and seek a Word from the Lord to focus on during the year. My word for this year is “Rest.”

Looking at some of the definitions of rest, it is freedom from activity or labor; peace of mind or spirit.

When we operate from a state of rest, we operate from a place of trust in God.

When Jesus died on the cross, He said “It is finished” ( John 19:30). He didn’t say that He’s left a few things undone for us to complete.

According to Galatians 2:20 (NLT)My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

We have to see ourselves crucified with Christ and Him living in us. Whatever is coming against us is coming against Him. Is Christ agitated? No. So why should we be? Let’s operate from the Mind of Christ, thinking like Him (1 Corinthians 2:16).

Looking at Galatians 3:13 (NLT), it states – But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”

What are these curses Christ has redeemed us from? There’s a whole list mentioned in Deuteronomy 28 including adultery ( Deuteronomy 28:30), sickness, poverty. The curse of adultery has been broken at the cross. We need to rest on this truth.

For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.  Ephesians 2:6 (NLT)

God has seated us. It’s a place of rest, not agitation, striving and anxiety.

Be still, and know that I am God!  Psalm 46:10a (NLT)

So let us be still and know God is in control.

When God saw darkness, He didn’t wring His hands and complain about darkness, but He called forth light (Genesis 1:3).

We have the Holy Spirit living inside of us, so let us call forth God’s will and declare what we want to see happen – marriages restored, unsaved getting saved, debts cancelled, sicknesses healed and so forth.

Let’s operate from the place of rest.

AMAzing and right on point! Thank you Lalitha🙏🏽. I loved, “ The curse of adultery has been broken at the cross. We need to rest on this truth.” I will rest on God and be still. I have for nearly seven years strong and with God’s grace and mercy! I declare my marriage clean of curses they have been broken at the cross. In Jesus name. Amen.

For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:6 (NLT)

P.S. I was looking for your song.
N thought of “your love never fails, it never runs out of me… And on …”
