Restored and Redeemed

Has your marriage been restored? Restored & Redeemed is a devotional for those in a restored marriage.

Seeing the Glory of God in Your Restoration

But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?” Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. John 11:37-38

The sisters of Lazarus had sent for Jesus. When He arrived, Lazarus had been dead for four days. Jesus asked that the stone sealing the burial place be taken away.

“Take away the stone,” he said. “But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.” John 11:39

Jesus gave a beautiful reply.

Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” John 11:40

Today, many marriages that appear dead by the world’s standards have been buried. The stone of divorce has been placed. Those looking on caution us not to remove that stone because the smell might be too great. Jesus has rolled away the stone and healed your marriage.

I encourage you to name the stone that once tried to bury your marriage. Your stone may have been called lack of faith, selfishness, bitterness, or unforgiveness. The cement of adultery or drugs may have tried to cement the stone in place.

Lazarus wasn’t too dead for Jesus to bring to life, just as there has never been a marriage too dead for Jesus Christ to bring back to life. The God who we serve is the God of second chances.

Sometimes after a marriage is restored, one or both spouses can go into spiritual hibernation. A stander who was once faithful in Bible study attendance suddenly stops after a prodigal returns home.

May you celebrate the hope Jesus has given you for your marriage, but stay on guard so the stone that once tried to ruin your marriage doesn’t get rolled out again.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. Psalm 46:1-2

God bless,
