Fight for Your Marriage

Are you standing for the restoration of your marriage? A daily devotional that will offer encouragement from God’s Word as you stand for the restoration of your marriage.

What I Learned When I Was Struggling to Stand

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood…  Ephesians 6:12

Are you struggling to wait for your marriage to be restored? Are you losing hope due to your circumstances? Let me share a scripture that I pray you will memorize this week:

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Ephesians 6:10-12

My husband was not my enemy.

One of the first principles the Lord showed me was that Bob was not my enemy. Do you understand the meaning of the scripture in Ephesians 6:10-13? This is a spiritual battle. I was not to react or allow the enemy to torment my mind with images of what “may be” going on in my husband’s life. You can lay your husband or wife, the other person, and your children at the Lord’s feet daily and tell the Lord that you trust Him to handle the situation. Your family’s challenges do not stump the God who spoke and created the Heavens and the earth.

The struggles I was facing were set forth to destroy my family.

The next principle God showed me was that the struggles with my husband were tricks to destroy our marriage and our children. We were set to be another statistic in our church by having divorce ruin our family. The enemy was also working overtime to tempt me to fall into sin by not trusting the Lord for my marriage to be restored.

The battle you face with your spouse is not just between you and your spouse. It is a much larger spiritual battle that will affect generations to come. Satan is the father of all lies, and he is out to deceive men and women. We can be victorious when we are reminded that our God is greater.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”  John 10:10

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  1 Peter 5:6-9

I challenge you to pray scriptures with your and your spouse’s names in them. Choose to live above your circumstances by the power of your Lord Jesus Christ. Check out our book, Prayers for Victory, filled with personalized scripture prayers.

Has the enemy been attacking you with thoughts of giving up?

Are you tired of all the struggles with financial problems, loneliness, jealousy, unforgiveness, having no patience in waiting on the Lord’s timing, fighting, and even questioning God’s will for your marriage? Be on guard. Be alert. The enemy will try to tempt and deceive you.

Let me share a powerful scripture for you. Write it on an index card and keep it in front of you to remind you how to respond to your spouse’s actions and words.

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.  1 Corinthians 16:13-14

What would you do if your loved one was physically taken captive by an enemy? Would you not fast and pray without ceasing, asking others not to give up on your spouse, but pray for God’s divine intervention in this crisis?

That is how you need to think about your spouse. The enemy has taken them captive, and our Lord is the only one who can rescue them if they will surrender to His will.

Your circumstances may seem impossible, but God controls our impossibilities.

Pray for your spouse to be able to flee from the enemy. Allow the Lord to help train you to battle for your marriage.

Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me.  Psalm 144:1-2

Remember that we are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ! Never forget your Lord’s power and His ability to set them free from the enemy’s lies, tricks, and deceptions.

I want to know the areas you are struggling with. Comment below or visit our website. We want to be praying for you.

…The Lord sets prisoners free, the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the righteous.  Psalm 146:7-8

God bless,

Every day is a struggle with this question – will I trust God’s will and timing or not? Peace only comes when I answer with “yes”. 🙏

My struggle is, if there is no marriage in heaven, when then? I am not getting any younger and have been standing for over 20 years. Where is the promise if one of us dies first.
