Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them…Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander”. Matthew 15:10-11, 17-19
What are your thoughts throughout the day? Are they primarily positive or negative? Are your thoughts according to God’s Word and His promises, or are they thoughts of doubt, fear, and hopelessness due to your circumstances?
I pray you have come to the place where you recognize Satan’s tricks against you and your family. Satan often attacks your mind. You may find yourself guided by your emotions instead of facts. That may be what happened to your spouse. They may have believed the lie that there is something better out there.
I pray that you will choose to walk in faith, with perseverance and tenacity. You are in a battle. You need to fight for your marriage. Remember your wedding vows. Remember that your marriage is a covenant, not a contract. Contracts can be broken. Covenants cannot.
Your spouse may be behaving irrationally right now. You may not recognize the person you see in your spouse. You can stand firm, praying, seeking the Lord for His divine answers to your problems. You are going through a fiery trial, facing marriage problems that you never thought would happen. Don’t give up. Don’t give in to the enemy’s tricks and schemes. Your spouse is worth fighting for!
Do you need wisdom? Ask the Lord, and He will guide your footsteps. Ask the Lord what you should learn through this crisis in your marriage.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. James 1:2-8
Did you notice the verses in the scripture about doubt? You must believe and not doubt. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. Are you double-minded? Being double-minded means you are wavering or undecided about what you should do.
I hear from people constantly who are double-minded and wavering in their resolve to pray for their marriage to be restored. Why? Their thoughts are holding them captive. They have allowed the enemy to fill their minds and have not taken those thoughts captive.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:6-9
My prayer is that you will stop worrying about your circumstances. Can you fix them by worrying about them? Ask your Lord what you should do. God does speak!
Ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse your mind from all impurities and wrong thoughts. Bind the Enemy. The Enemy is defeated by the Word of God and by praising your Lord.
I can assure you that your spouse is also tormented by their thoughts. There is freedom in Jesus Christ! You or your spouse may have a negative thought cross your mind, but neither of you has to dwell on and think about such things. Take captive every one of your thoughts, then speak God’s Word.
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
