The Detour Road

Men, has the Lord placed a devotional on your heart that you would like to share with other standers?

Stop! Just stop what you are doing right now! Take a moment and take in a deep breath. Now, take in another deep breath. Life is too short and precious for you to lose your direction at this time in your life. If you are reading this devotional, life has thrown you a curve ball, a knuckle ball and the future of your marriage and/or family relationships are in question. Stop! Again I say, breath in deeply! Think about what has just happened in your life, where you are right now, and where you need to be. Do you feel like you need some direction, perhaps a new path for your life? I suspect that you do. May I suggest you consult your Creator, the King of Kings. Let me suggest that you seek Jesus Christ’s counsel for your life as found in His Word, the Holy Bible. Then may I suggest that you select a life statement(s) from His Word to guide you and give you comfort as you face the challenges of the day. Below are the two scriptures that I find myself reflecting on when life sends me down that detour road of pain and discouragement.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  Jeremiah 29:11-13  “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”  Hebrews 13:5b
That same passage from the Message reads:
“I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you.”  Hebrews 13:5b (MSG)
These two scriptures of strength and direction from God’s Word have become ‘life statements’ for me and they guide me daily as I face the world with its many problems. Notice that the passage from Jeremiah tells us to call upon the Lord, to pray to Him, and He will LISTEN. The Hebrews passage as found in the Message says that God (Jesus Christ) will never walk off and leave you [stranded]. Such is the comfort I find when I am stressed out by life’s detours. I suggest that each of you stop for a few moments and reflect on your own lives, the problems you are currently facing, and select a scripture or statement of faith to build (or rebuild) your life around. Let this ‘life statement’ direct your path, a pathway that takes you away from life’s detours. Then when faced with marriage difficulties, relationship problems, or problems dealing with health and/or finances intervene in your life, sending you down that unplanned route (your detour), may you find your vision and footsteps being redirected toward the correct path. Redirection is what is needed to get your life’s vehicle back on the main road, back on that road toward family wholeness and wellness. Detours are always a drag, whether we are physically driving a car or we are coming face to face with life issues we find along life’s journey. But in this journey through life, detours are the distraction that Satan places along our path to take our attention away from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Hebrews 12:1-2 (NASB)
The writer of Hebrews speaks of this journey as the race that is set before us and he directs our attention to the true compass for our lives, Jesus Christ. Detours in life’s journey can be long (weeks, months, even years). They can be difficult and associated with much heartache and sorrow; however, when we fix our focus on Jesus and seek His help, He can untangle the mess we find ourselves in. This requires us to take a step of faith, one where we may not see the route leading away from our detour; but through that step of faith, we will find the path back to the main road, a road filled with happiness and joy. Such is the life that exists in a healed and restored relationship with Jesus Christ and with our spouse and loved ones. Detours are the pits! Faith in Jesus Christ is the answer! It is Jesus Christ who can set your pathway straight!
Faith is what makes real the things we hope for. It is proof of what we cannot see.  Hebrews 11:1 (ERV)
Are you seeing signs reading ‘Detour Ahead’? Our destination is unclear because Satan has placed road blocks, detours, and rough roads ahead. Know this, you are not alone. Many have traveled down this detour before you. Know that through your faith in Jesus Christ, your life’s journey can bypass those detour signs allowing you and your loved ones to travel life’s journey to your intended destination, free of the detour roads. Jesus Christ is walking alongside you. Such is the confidence we find in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Find a ‘life statement’ to live by. May our Lord Jesus Christ direct your footsteps and those of your family and loved ones as you travel life’s pathways each and every day, now and forever more.
