The Lord Will Fight for You

Today’s devotional is written by Lori Steinkamp Lassen. She is our only daughter, who has been married to her husband, Scott for 27 years. Lori is the mother of four children, and has worked with the ministry for many years. May her devotional deepen your spiritual walk with the Lord. – Charlyne

The Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, so that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out boldly. The Egyptians – all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots, horsemen and troops – pursued the Israelites and overtook them as they camped by the sea near Pi Hahiroth, opposite Baal Zephon. As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord. They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!” Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring to you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”  Exodus 14:8-14

Do you ever feel like the Israelites, like God has brought you to a place of pain and abandoned you? Let me set up the situation. Pharaoh decided to make the Hebrew foreigners slaves, so God had to step in and rescue them. Enter Moses. He returns to Egypt to lead God’s people out of slavery. I can’t imagine what a job that was for Moses. We are not talking about Moses leading 20 people on a journey. There were thousands of Israelites. I work in the children’s ministry at our church, and sometimes it feels like I am trying to corral cockroaches. They scatter in different directions. I have never had to lead thousands.

In the midst of the journey, the Israelites were trapped near the sea and realized the Egyptian army was getting closer. The Israelites were feeling the pressure. Their response was whining and complaining (verses 11-12). Can you imagine? God had already rescued them by sending Moses to lead them, and now they doubt His power. Surely we have never done that! I would be lying if I said I had not failed to see God’s hand working in my life.

The example above is why my mom and I are big fans of journaling. It is easy to get caught up in the current circumstances and forget the ways the Lord has been so faithful to us in the past. It’s through those hard times we can face the present battles with faith knowing that He will “fight for you; you need only to be still” (verse 14).

Please read those words again and really absorb what that statement means…

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

My house is in foreclosure.
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

My spouse is having a baby with the other person.
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

I lost my job.
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

I have been given a serious diagnosis.
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

My spouse has married another person.
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

____________?_________________
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

Fill in the blank. What battle are you facing today? Do you trust the Lord to make a way in the desert of circumstances for you, or are you whining and complaining?

Today, trust that the Creator of this World is not caught off guard by anything that is happening to you. He knows the trials you are facing. He wants to make a way; you only need to trust Him. That doesn’t mean manipulating situations. It means wholeheartedly trusting Him.

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

God bless,

Thanks Lori. This really ministered to me as I am facing a lot of challenges currently. Father we praise You that You will fight for us. Help us just stay calm and rest on the finished work of the cross.

See a victory
There’s power in the mighty name of Jesus
Every war He wages He will win
I’m not backing down from any giant
‘Cause I know how this story ends
Yes, I know how this story ends
I’m gonna see a victory
I’m gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You, Lord

Good morning. As I was looking in the bible for a particular passage before I turned on my computer to read your daily devotion, I turned to a page and my eyes landed on this verse;” Every valley shall be filled in every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. And all people will see God’s salvation”. -Luke 3:5-6. Alleluia to God the Father! I receive it. I will stay still. Thank you Lori for having God send you to us with this message. We are all blessed.
The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent. Exodus 14:14
But they who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with the wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. -Isaiah 40:31
When the righteous cry, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles -Psalm 34:17
For nothing will be impossible with God -Luke 1:37
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? -Romans 8:31

Lord,
I will be still. I trust you to fight for me right now. You have not brought me this far to leave or abandon me. You have not begun a restoration with promises only for You to abandon us. If faith is required to please You, I will chose to trust You through this and every storm! In Jesus’ name, by your grace I will see this victory and many, many more to come. Amen!

Could not have been a better devotional for me today.
Thank you.
