“Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.'” Isaiah 46:9-10
What a powerful promise for us. When Bob was gone, he was forever saying, “I am never coming home. How many times do I have to tell you? Get on with your life!” Previously, I had called Bob asking for forgiveness for giving up on him, giving up on God and filing for our divorce. Bob kept reiterating that he was never coming home. “Our marriage is dead. It is hopeless. You know we have had marriage problems since the beginning of our marriage. It will never change.” Bob had found someone else and he was happy. Or so I thought.
I know you have heard the same words, feeling such pain, rejection, abandonment, fear and hopelessness. Do not panic. That is your prodigal’s opinion and plan, who is being tempted, deceived, and blinded, and has fallen into Satan’s trap.
Let me tell you what was happening to me. All the time Bob was speaking death about our marriage being restored, the Lord was speaking to me the complete opposite — having faith, hope, putting all my trust in God. I chose to believe in God’s will for our marriage restoration. God’s plans and purpose will prevail! I had a choice to make — follow the Lord or follow the world’s ways of living a divorced lifestyle. As you cry out to the Lord, what is He speaking to your heart?
What God was saying to me so many years ago is that He was going to bring deliverance to Bob, whose heart was very hard. God was confirming again to me that He would bring a man to fulfill His purpose.
Bob was under such Holy Spirit conviction at that time that he went to the pastor telling him his story. Bob explained that his wife was praying for his return home. He also admitted to the pastor about his serious involvement with the other person as they were planning a wedding. By the grace of God, the pastor opened up the Word of God and spoke God’s Word to Bob that special day in his life. Did he come home immediately? No. But the Holy Spirit turned up the fire on Bob to be obedient to His will and way. May you never doubt the power of God’s Word. In God’s perfect timing, Bob came home.
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:12-13
I cried out to my Lord for His help, His plan and purpose for the rest of my life. You need to cry out to the Lord for His direction and help. He will direct every step for your life and marriage. That is when the Lord gave me the powerful scripture in Isaiah Chapter 46:
“From the east I summon a bird of prey; from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose. What I have said, that will I bring about; what I have planned, that will I do. Listen to me, you stubborn-hearted, you who are far from righteousness. I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion, my splendor to Israel.” Isaiah 46:11-13
When Bob left, I did not believe in the Lord’s power, plan or purpose. Today I am teaching, encouraging and pleading with standers around the world to believe, have faith, hope and trust in your Lord God for His plan and purpose for your marriage to be restored, regardless of your circumstances.
The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever — do not abandon the works of your hands. Psalm 138:8
You need to understand in your heart that if your spouse looks as if they have succeeded in accomplishing everything they wanted, that may not be true. They have fallen into the trap of sin. You can’t know for sure what is happening in your spouse’s heart. Don’t pretend to understand what is happening behind the scenes. Never doubt God’s plans which will prevail!
What is happening to you? Are you sitting on the sideline, wounded, hurting, feeling the rejection of their unfaithfulness. What are you to do? Are you going to fall into the same trap as they have? No! Choose to seek the Lord and believe in His plan and purpose for your marriage. Just stand firm, believing in your Lord God to part the Red Sea of impossible circumstances to show you His mighty power. It does not matter what your spouse is doing; it matters what your Lord has promised, planned and purposed for you and your marriage being resurrected from the dead and rebuilt by God, the Architect and Builder.
With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
