Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request. 1 Chronicles 4:10
Do you know Jabez’s prayer? How often have you prayed the Jabez prayer for yourself or someone else? The simple prayer Jabez prayed is a good reminder of the importance of prayer. Never doubt the power of prayer.
Listen to Jabez, a man of honor, asking the Lord to bless him, protect him, and be free from pain. God answered His prayer of faith. Your Lord wants you to seek Him for all your needs. Do you believe that Jesus answers prayers? I do.
Never forget that your Lord has all the answers to your problems, if only you would seek “His answers” and have faith and believe. Are you a person of faith? You need to be. You need to walk in faith as you seek the Lord in prayer.
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for…And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:1-2,6
Jabez prayed, “Oh, Lord, bless me, give me property, help me in my work and all that I do.” Jabez wanted the Lord to open the doors and find favor and success with everything he did.
The next part of Jabez’s prayer was that he wanted to be protected from harm and from evil and that he would be free from pain.
Is that not our prayer for ourselves, our spouse, our children and loved ones? Believe that your Lord God can answer this prayer. Let’s read what Jesus said:
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Matthew 6:13
What promises from God. Everyone wants to be loved. Everyone does not want to live in fear. Every person wants to be free from the pain of separation and divorce. Every person wants security, to be safe, wanting their children and themselves protected from harm’s way. We know of many who are hurting from rejection, abandonment, moral injury, and hurtful words.
Today, as you reflect on the prayer Jabez prayed, ask the Lord to give you faith to handle His answered prayers that may not align with your desires. Sometimes, the “Not yet” answers are actually for our protection. Start praying as Jabez did to his Lord, “Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.”
