Are you happily married and looking for tips on maintaining a God-honoring marriage? This weekly devotional will give you encouragement for your marriage.

There Is Power in Prayer

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. James 5:16

I often hear the phrase, “There is power in prayer,” but I don’t think anyone actually realizes how powerful our prayers are. I read an email recently in which the woman shared how she realized she had stopped praying for her family and just had not realized it. The busyness of life had gotten in the way of her prayer life.

I have been challenged recently to have a more intentional prayer life. Instead of just having a prayer life filled with popcorn prayers, those quick prayers we pray throughout the day, we can become people who are prayer warriors.

Do you know a prayer warrior? Do you know someone who you can depend on to pray for you, someone who regularly prays over different areas? I have known a few in my life, but sadly, most of them have passed away. We can pick up the baton and continue the example these prayer warriors have given us.

My mom is a prayer warrior. Years ago, when she felt like she ran out of words, she started praying by personalizing scriptures and adding our names to them.

As we approach Father’s Day, a day that can be bittersweet for many, I want to share a prayer with you. Whether your own dad is no longer with you, or you know another dad who could use your prayers, your words can be a powerful blessing. Personalize this prayer with their name as you pray.

A Prayer for Fathers

Lord I come to you in praise and thanksgiving for who you are. I will extol you at all times; your praise will always be on my lips. You are faithful to all your promises. Thank you, Lord, that you are turning the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers. I am confident of this, that He who began a good work in ______ and our family will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Lord. I have not stopped praying for my spouse and asking you to fill ______ with the knowledge of your will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Thank you that you have rescued ______ from the dominion of darkness and you are bringing him into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom he has redemption, the forgiveness of sins. I pray that out of your glorious riches you may strengthen ______ with power through your Spirit in his inner being so that Christ may dwell in his heart through faith.

I pray that you will make ______ to be made new in the attitude of his mind, and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. I pray that ______ as a father will not exasperate his children, instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Let ______ not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time ______ will reap a harvest if he does not give up. You will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths you will guide them; you will turn the darkness into light before ______ and make the rough places smooth. These are the things you will do. Thank you that you will not forsake______. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
