Men, has the Lord placed a devotional on your heart that you would like to share with other standers?

Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.  1 Thessalonians 5:18

The fourth Thursday of November in the United States is a day set aside to thank God for His many blessings on our nation. Our nation first set aside a National Day of Thanksgiving in 1789. Here is a portion of the text of the declaration signed by George Washington…

NOW THEREFORE, I do recommend and assign THURSDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH DAY of NOVEMBER next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country.

Unfortunately, for many in our secular humanistic society, Thanksgiving Day is nothing more than a day off from work, devoted to overeating and watching football on TV. We have forgotten to thank the one who has given us these bountiful blessings. We have forgotten the neglected, the down trodden, and broken members of our society. George Washington was well aware of the shortcomings of our nation when he further went on to say…

And also, that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions.

You may be alone this Thanksgiving, away from the family you love and cherish. You may find it hard to give thanks in the midst of your loneliness and despair. God is with you even now. He has not given up on you, your spouse or your family. Thank Him for His mercy in sending His Son into the world to die for your sins. Focus on what Jesus did for you on the cross and not on your momentary troubles. No matter what, God’s incredible love for you will never change. His love is the one thing that you can count on, always.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.  1 Chronicles 16:34

This Thanksgiving, I will be thanking God for using the pain I had to endure to encourage you and others battling for their homes and marriages. I will be thanking God for my life and the burden He has placed on my heart for marriages. I will be thanking the Lord for your obedience and faith in honoring your marriage vows. I will be asking God to pardon our nation for sins committed against the unborn, the disabled and the elderly of our society. I will be asking pardon for those spouses who have abandoned home and family in search of elusive happiness and fulfillment in the far country. I will be asking God’s pardon for the times that I was ungrateful and unthankful for His numerous blessings on my life.

Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.  1 Chronicles 29:13

Thanksgiving became a yearly national holiday in 1863, with our country torn apart by the issue of slavery. In the midst of battle, then President Abraham Lincoln made this proclamation…

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.

My prayer is as we pause to thank Almighty God for blessings, His extraordinary blessings are called to thought by your absent spouse, softening her heart. As Lincoln states, these blessings cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the most insensible heart. May your spouse turn her thoughts and heart towards home.

Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.  1 Chronicles 16:8-12

May the love of the Lord fill you to overflowing with peace and joy. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.  Psalm 7:17

God bless you, O faithful man of God.
