What Can Be Done for You?

One day Elisha went to Shunem. And a well-to-do woman was there, who urged him to stay for a meal. So whenever he came by, he stopped there to eat. She said to her husband, “I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God. Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us.”  2 Kings 4:8-10

In 2 Kings chapter 4, there is a story about a wealthy Shunammite woman with the gift of hospitality. Elisha wanted to bless her for all that she had done for him. In verse 14, he asks, “What can be done for you?” Elisha tells the woman that despite her husband’s age, she will have a son. This woman thinks that idea sounds ridiculous, yet one year later, she has a son.

What would your answer have been to the question, “What can be done for you?”

Do you want a closer walk with the Lord?

Do you want your marriage restored, to get out of financial debt, or a healing touch on yourself or your loved ones?

God showed the Shunammite woman, her family, and many others that God blessed her by having a child later in life. May you learn and never doubt that God can do anything in His perfect timing. The boy grew and went out with his father into the fields, and then a tragedy struck.

He said to his father, “My head! My head!” His father told a servant, “Carry him to his mother.” After the servant had lifted him and carried him to his mother, the boy sat on her lap until noon, and then he died. She went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, then shut the door and went out. She called her husband and said, “Please send me one of the servants and a donkey so I can go to the man of God quickly and return.” “Why go to him today?” he asked. “It’s not the New Moon or the Sabbath.” “It’s all right,” she said.”  2 Kings 4:19-23

Look at this woman’s response of faith to her husband. She did not tell him any details, but she, by faith, laid her son on Elisha’s bed, believing that only he could do a miracle for her son, who had died.

Is your marriage dead? God can do anything! He can resurrect hurting and dead marriages.

Let’s watch this woman of faith. What did she do? She told no one about her child dying. She took the child into the room she and her husband had made for the man of God and laid him on his bed. Then she told her husband she needed a servant and a donkey to get the man of God. She then said, “It’s all right!” Wow! What a woman of faith. She had prayed and chosen that she would not give up on her son. I encourage you to never give up on your husband or wife, your one flesh spouse, who has left your marriage and has a heart condition that can only be touched and transformed by the Lord God as you pray.

So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. When he saw her in the distance, the man of God said to his servant Gehazi, “Look! There’s the Shunammite! Run to meet her and ask her, ‘Are you all right? Is your husband all right? Is your child all right?'” “Everything is all right,” she said.”  2 Kings 4:25-26

Look at her answer: “Everything is all right.” She did not even tell Gehazi her problem. She kept believing and walking in faith. Oh, dear stander, I think that your words or actions often destroy your faith. My prayer is that the story of the Shunammite woman will challenge you to live, walk, and talk in faith about your dead marriage. Believe and stand on God’s promises. Seek His face for His answers only!

Then Elisha sent Gehazi with his staff and told him to lay it on the boy’s face. Gehazi followed his instructions but returned and told Elisha that the boy did not wake up. In verses 32-37 of 2 Kings chapter 4, we read that Elisha stretched himself out on top of the boy to warm his body, and the boy woke up!

Will you become like this woman of faith? She believed in Elisha, the man of God, to do a miracle for her dead son. Notice that Elisha had to pray for some time. Will you believe in the Lord God to do a miracle of marriage restoration for you and your beloved husband or wife and lost loved ones? Never stop believing!

Don’t let time be a hindrance; ask the Lord for His wisdom and knowledge. Stop speaking negative words of hopelessness; instead, speak words of faith, hope, and trust in your Lord God!

Remember her words: “It’s all right!”

God bless,
