Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. Luke 5:5-6
I came across this scripture a few days ago. As Charlyne would say, “The words jumped off the pages.” The Lord spoke to my spirit so clearly. What did I say? If you’re wondering what He meant, this is the conviction that I received. Did the Lord tell me to stand for my marriage? Yes. Did the Lord tell me that my husband would come back home? Yes. Did the Lord tell me to love my husband unconditionally? Yes. Did the Lord tell me to trust Him? Yes. Did the Lord say that it would be easy? No. Did the Lord tell me that I would like the process? No. Did the Lord tell me that it would be worth it? Yes.
“So will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed. They’ll do the work I sent them to do, they’ll complete the assignment I gave them”. Isaiah 55:11 (MSG)
I want to encourage you to reflect on what the Lord said to you. I know there are many times where we second guess what has been spoken. The times when the Lord is quiet, we question our stand. When the Lord tells us to do something we don’t like, we try to rebuke it like it’s the devil. I’ve learned that through the hurt and pain, the Lord speaks in many different ways. Our job as standers is to be still long enough to listen. The Lord wants us to put Him first before anything else, including our spouse. He did not tell us to stand only to pray for our spouse to return. The Lord wants us to seek His face. To yearn for His love. To share His glory.
I know it’s hard. I know it doesn’t seem fair. I know there are many ways that we can just say no to standing. But in the end, we will be an example to our world that God is able. That our God is wonderful. That our God can do all things. As standers, we are blessed to be able to glorify the Lord through our obedience. It may be days, months or years before our spouse returns home. But ask yourself, would you have the same relationship with the Lord if you didn’t go through this? For me, that would be a solid, “No.”
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:3-5
Let me ask you this? What will you accomplish for the glory of the Lord during your stand? Will you grow in the Lord? Will you help a fellow stander through their tough time? Will you share your testimony to encourage anybody who’s waiting and expecting God to move? Will you grow in the Lord by reading His Word? Will you surrender all to the Lord? Will you serve at your local church?
Or will you…… Be the one who stays the same because it is comfortable? Stay the same because it’s hard to change? Will you focus on your spouse more than you focus on the Lord? Will you linger on the fact that it’s not fair? Trust me, I’ve been doing the latter for a while. I can honestly say that it hasn’t helped me grow in the Lord. I thank God that I finally see more clearly now. The Lord has shown me many reminders of His goodness through Rejoice Marriage Ministries. You found this site for a reason just like me.
I encourage you to seek Him more. I encourage you to look for His signs and ways. The Lord does speak through people and circumstances. I pray that you put more of your focus on the Lord. I know from experience that it is far from easy. But you and I are the chosen ones. The ones who are called to fight for our families. The ones who will be an example to everyone we encounter. The Lord will get all the glory through our experiences. The Lord will get the glory with everyone we help. The Lord will get the glory through our sacrifices. The Lord will get the glory because we won’t give up.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:10-12
This is a spiritual battle that we are going through. We need to fight with spiritual weapons. The battle can’t be won without the Lord’s weapons. Fight using the Word of God. Fight with your prayers. Fight with determination. Fight with a purpose.
