Who We Magnify

Each week we share guest devotionals. The views expressed below are those of the writer and may not reflect the views of Rejoice Marriage Ministries or the Steinkamps.
Has the Lord placed a devotional on your heart that you would like to share with other standers?

Hezekiah trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him. He held fast to the Lord and did not stop following him; he kept the commands the Lord had given Moses. 2 Kings 18:5-6

Dear brother or sister,

Hezekiah was a king who stood out more than all others because of one important and crucial aspect of our walk with the Lord. Can you guess it? TRUST.

He faced fears, threats, challenges, just like us as standers and yet he acted on his faith over his fear. His courage and confidence was in the Lord though he still faced circumstances that looked discouraging.

We have a choice to magnify the Lord or magnify the actions and hurtful words of others, our hurt, past, or circumstances. But when we do this we are ultimately walking in our flesh. We must also remember what we magnify, will become an idol and rule our lives. The more we focus on our hurt, the more we will hurt. The hurt can rule our lives and keep us confined to our circumstances. When we follow Christ, look to Him, magnify and worship our Lord, despite our circumstances, we can have peace as He fights on our behalf. While we can be honest with our Lord about our pain, we can know He is above any circumstance. We can walk in His freedom rather than our circumstances. He is our Healer, our Redeemer.

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. Romans 8:5

When we ask for the Lord’s help, and magnify Him, He can work on our hearts, the hearts of our prodigals and we can allow Him to work everything out for our good. We can become who He intended us to be in all fullness in Him in this season. We can give grace as He gives.

An important part of our walk is seeking the Lord above all and letting His Word govern our hearts and minds. This means seeking Him alone, placing everything at the foot of His cross and following Him, allowing Him to be God. We can trust that He is good. We must hide His Word in our hearts so that despite our pain we can walk in His truth.

The king of Assyria used a direct tactic to cause intimidation and create distrust in the Lord. Hezekiah faced discouragement like we too face, but he focused on WHO was with him rather than his fear. The enemy is looking for an opportunity to take us off course. We can fight with faith in our God and His Word.

“With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said. 2 Chronicles 32:8

Brothers and sisters, let us follow Christ and magnify our God more than our pain or anyone in this world. He is worthy. He is able.

Heavenly Father,

I magnify Your Holy Name above anything or anyone I face today. Father, You are worthy of my praise. Father, today I seek You, trusting You with my pain, prodigal and circumstances. You are with me and great are You Lord. May You alone receive all the glory in my weakness and pain. Come Holy Spirit. Rule my heart, Lord. Help me to walk by Your truth and magnify You even under pressure and pain. I choose to follow You. Be glorified above anything or anyone that attempts to rule my heart oh Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
