12 Days of Praying for Your Wife

Spiritual Growth

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever! Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

Lord, I pray that my wife would grow in the knowledge of You. Give her a desire to know you and to follow after You. Lord, if she doesn’t have a personal relationship with You, I pray that You would chase after her. Turn her from all unhealthy, wrong doings and remove all soul ties from ungodly relationships. Lord, soften her hardened heart to a heart of flesh. May my wife hunger and thirst to read God’s Word daily. Lord, may she desire to have our marriage stronger today than on her wedding day. May You fill her up with agape and eros love. May she experience the power in praying. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Purpose

“For I know the plan I have for you, ” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13

Lord, I pray that you will give my wife Your purpose and plan to show her Your heart’s desire for her life as a wife, mother and her calling to serve You. I pray that my wife would seek after Your will in her life. Give my wife the wisdom to know when You are speaking to her and give her ears to hear what You say clearly. Guard her heart, keeping watch over the door of her lips. May her heart not be drawn to evil, but renew her mind daily to choose to do Your will. May you speak loudly to my wife to turn her heart toward home, to me and our children. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Character

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Proverbs 31:10-11, 25-27

Lord, I pray that my wife would be a woman of great character. I pray that she would overflow with the joy of the Lord in her life. I pray that she would be filled with laughter when we spend time together and as she recalls the memories of our past. I pray that she would be filled with wisdom in the decisions she must make. Give her Your divine wisdom to know what Your perfect will is for our marriage. No weapon forged against us will prevail. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Sin

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Psalm 51:1-4

Lord, I pray that my wife will seek You to be Lord of her life. I pray that she would repent of the sins she has committed and that You would cleanse her from all her impurities. Lord, create in her a pure heart. Thank You, Jesus, for dying on the cross as God revealed His mighty power as You arose for all sinners. Lord, give my wife a heart that desires to follow after You. I pray that she would have a heart that breaks when she lets sin reign in her body and she will choose to crucify her sinful desires suddenly. Lord, open her eyes to turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan’s tricks to God to be forgiven. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Sexual Purity

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Lord, I pray that You would keep my wife sexually pure. Remove anyone or anything that is in her life that is tempting her to be sexually impure. I pray that my wife would have eyes only for me. Give her the good memories of our times together and may that be what she dwells on. I pray that she would desire me and no one else. Remove the desire from her to seek sexual gratification from any outside source. Lord, block her path with thornbushes, put up barriers, so she can’t chase or find any other man. Then she will realize in her heart that she needs to return to me and our covenant marriage. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.

Fear

In my anguish I cried to the Lord, and he answered by setting me free. The Lord is with me, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The Lord is with me, he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies. Psalm 118:5-7

When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me? Psalm 56:3-4

Lord, I pray that You remove all my fear and increase my faith more each day. I pray that my wife will have the fear of the Lord which is the beginning of knowledge. Everything that overwhelms my wife’s mind I pray that You will replace it with a peace that only You can give her. May the peace of God guard her heart and her mind. I pray that fear of failure, the future, my reactions or the reactions of others, would no longer govern the mind of my wife. Lord, may my wife think only good thoughts. May she learn to take captive all the negative, dark thoughts. Give her a peace that she recognizes comes from You only. I pray that when my wife lays her head on the pillow tonight, may You speak Your truths to her and turn her from her wrongdoing. I pray that she will cry out to You and realize that true peace comes when we belong to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Friends

A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. Proverbs 12:26

Lord, I pray that my wife would be surrounded with godly women who will speak truth into her life. I pray that she would sever any ungodly friendships. Give my wife wisdom and discernment in the company she keeps. Help my wife to be quick to forgive when she feels her friends have wronged her. May her friends be women of integrity and character who will continually be examples of Christ in my wife’s life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Wife

Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything…and the wife must respect her husband. Ephesians 5:22-24, 33b

Lord, I pray that our marriage would be built on You as our solid foundation. I pray that I would love my wife the way she needs to be loved and that she would respect me. I pray you would give me a fresh agape and eros love for my wife. Help me be able to forgive seventy-seven times, where forgiveness is needed. I pray that You would erase the parts of our past that need to be forgotten. Lord, help me become the husband who helps my wife with our children and other responsibilities in our home. Teach me to listen to her opinions in the many areas of our lives and pay attention to her every day. Help me become the best husband and helpmate You would have me to be. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Hope

Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 42:5

The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. Psalm 147:11

Father, I pray that You would help my wife see that there is hope. She may be feeling like our situation is hopeless, or like her life is hopeless. I ask that You would help her see there is hope and that hope is You. I pray that she would cry out to You. Let me radiate my love for her when I can. Lord, give me patience as I wait. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Temptation

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

Lord, help my wife resist the temptation that she faces each day. May she be transformed by Your power and become a new creature in Christ. I pray that she would no longer put herself in situations where she is tempted to behave in ungodly ways. May she realize that You have provided an escape for her. She doesn’t have to give into the temptation that she is facing. May she flee the evil desires of her youth and instead pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace out of a pure heart. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The Past

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12-14

Lord, redeem that past that haunts my wife. Where there is brokenness, I pray that you will restore. Where there are memories of hurt from her childhood, may you heal the broken heart that is left behind. Give me the ability to forgive my wife for the way she has hurt me in the past. I pray that my wife would look to You. I pray that You would replace any unforgiveness, bitterness or hurt from my wife’s past with Your love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Spiritual Battle

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:10-17 (NIV)

Lord, teach me to learn how to fight this spiritual battle that has come in to our lives to steal, kill and destroy our marriage and our family. Lord, remind me every day to put the Armor of God on my family. Lord, I choose to speak God’s Word to fight against the enemy. Thank You for Your Hedge of Protection and that You will train me for battle. You are my strength, my rock, my fortress, my stronghold, my shield and my deliverer for my wife and family. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
